Note to the teacher

This exercise can be completed in one lesson. The level of English
   required is not high, but close attention to detail is required.

Pair work is a good idea as some of the students become frustrated with
   the arithmetical calculations required.

It is worth drawing the attention of the students to the
    interesting graphics employed in the snapshots.

I have found that giving the  students a print out of the worksheet, makes
   the logistics and organization of the lesson  far easier.

Students enjoy finding snapshots of their own choice,(Questions 8, 9 &10)
    They do not all find it easy to explain their findings orally. This can be
    subject matter for another lesson. (Who said teaching was boring?)

USA Today has a snapshot each day. You may want to look at the archive
    from time to time for a quick supplement to this lesson. Give them the
    subject of the snapshot and allow them to guess the statistics. Put the
    numbers on the blackboard and have them guess again before revealing
    the  correct answers.

Presenting the lesson as a competition could be considered for some
   classes.

Students who are able to do so could be encouraged to prepare a similar
   work page for a future lesson. I have no doubt their pages will add
   elements we haven't thought of.

I have not included an answer key. I am convinced that the lesson will be
   that much better when the person in charge has experienced whatever the
   students are asked to do.
