Download Starry, Starry Night file
My kids will have to look at the painting (Starry, Starry Night) read both
of the poems (see below), and decide which poem to work on (which includes
paraphrasing the poem, looking up poet biographical details, looking for
poetic devices I had taught in class previously: these can be seen in the
Seven Steps Handout, which is on the site with ETAI handouts from last
winter - but I have since consolidated the 7 steps to 4).
The music isn't really in sync with the writing. That's why I'll be giving my kids a page with the words on them.

I'll also try to find a recording of it on tape so that they can listen to it without the computer if they wish. But it's nice to look at a few times, as is. Micki Zaritsky also sent me this (thanks, Micki!):

Here is Anne Sexton's poem, also inspired by the same painting:

I'll be sending my kids to this site to find another Van Gough painting to write a poem about:

Enjoy!
