| THE RAIN CAME DOWN |
by Phyllis Oded
The rain came down
under and all around
the umbrella. It didn't keep ME dry.
I don't even know why
YOU opened it! It didn't help at all,
as the rain came down.

Large drops! Big splashes
on my face and eye-lashes.
I was now wet through and through
but there was nothing I could do
as the rain came down.
I waited there miserable,
all but invisible.
Totally drenched,
I stood near the bench
as the rain came down.
The umbrella covered YOU,
But what could I do?
I'm only your pet,
now totally wet,
as the rain came down.
If you had only looked down,
you would have found
ME, your loyal pet
as wet as I could get
as the rain came down.
