Mentoring and Mentorship for Teachers of English

Herewith the information about a course for this year. We welcome participation from all parts of the country where there is mentoring of newly qualified teachers ("stagerim") or peer mentoring.

We are pleased to notify you that we will once again be opening a course on Mentoring and Mentorship for Teachers of English. Pnina Rosenes and Valerie Jakar are the course leaders. The course is being offered under the auspices of David Yellin Academic College of Education and Michlalah in Jerusalem.

Who is eligible to take the course?
Experienced teachers (at least three years ' teaching in the school system) who will be mentoring novice* teachers OR who would like to be prepared to mentor in the Jerusalem region.

When does the course begin?
The course will begin officially in October, but there will be a preliminary meeting at the end of August. This will take place at David Yellin College, Beit Hakerem, Jerusalem.

What is the format of the course?
A combination of lectures, workshops, study days and online sessions.

Credits: 112 hours, with gmul **

** Please note that eligible teachers will receive a two-hour weekly pay supplement while they are taking the course. (For details of eligibility, consult the organizers at the initial meeting).

When and where will meetings take place?

  • Regular sessions, lectures and workshops: Wednesdays, 16.30 - 19.45 at David Yellin College.
  • Study days/workshops: to be announced
  • Online: distance discussion groups & virtual meetings, according to mutually agreeable scheduling.

Topics to be included:
Communication (Interpersonal) Skills; Assertiveness; Intelligences; Observation and Feedback; Coaching and Consulting; Current Pedagogical Issues for Teachers of English; Language Learning Strategies; Case Study and Action Research as Modes for Mentoring; School and Management Systems.

Please note:
We are offering an adjunct online course which will enable those who live in outlying areas (where there is no College of Education facility), to participate. There are a limited number of places for this program. Contact the leaders for more information.
