Lesson 2
SUBJECT: Characterization
In groups of 4, tell each other about the character you chose to discuss and why you chose to discuss him or her.Individually on your report paper write down information about your character.
Focus on: 1. What your character says or thinks.
2. What the author says about the character.
3. Does your book have a narrator?
4. If so, are the author and the narrator the same
person? Is the author a character in the book?
5. What do the other characters think or say
about your character?

4. Copy a few sentences from your book that
describe your character.
5. Does the book have a picture of your
character?

Lesson 3
SUBJECT: Setting
Time and PlaceAssignment: 1. Where does your story take place?
2. When does your story take place?
3. How do you know? (Copy a few sentences from
the book that give you the answer, write down
the page number.)
4. Does your book have pictures? If so, do they
show the setting? Describe it.For next week, be prepared to write about the plot.
Lesson 4
SUBJECT: PlotFrontal discussion: What is the difference between different types of stories (genres)?
Assignment:
Put your story into chronological order
Beginning - Middle - End
- Something happens (usually to the main character/s)
- Something changes (i.e. a dramatic change in their lives; someone's death, someone moves to live somewhere else, someone is in danger, etc.)
1. What are the changes in your story and to whom
do they happen?
2. What is the conflict?
3. What is the climax? Where and when does it
happen? Copy a few sentences which illustrate
(show) the climax.
4. Which characters are directly involved in the
climax?Next week be prepared to discuss your opinion.
Lesson 5
SUBJECT: Opinion(Frontal) Did you enjoy your books? Why / why not? What kinds of books do you like? Brainstorm for adjectives describing different types of books.
Assignment:
1. Did you enjoy your book? Why / why not?
2. Was it easy or difficult to understand?
3. Write 5 new words you learned from the book.
Copy the sentences in which they appear. Or make
up your own sentences.
4. Did your book have pictures? If so, did they help
you understand the story?
5. Write a few sentences about one of the pictures.Next week be prepared to recommend the book - orally and in writing.
Lesson 6
SUBJECT: May I Recommend?
(Bring in a review of a book, film or t.v. program from a magazine or newspaper - read it our and discuss the style of such a "report")Ask for a volunteer to recommend their book, film or t.v. program orally.
